This
www.apc.net/ia/scrtips.htm page is provided as a courtesy
to Screenwright(R) clients and visitors, and
it includes a couple of tips to aid in your use of WPWin 6.1.
The first helps get rid of an annoying prompt, and the second deals
with positioning the Find and Replace dialog box. There are also
some general WPWin resources at the bottom
of the page, including a patch for
Windows 95 users (and others).
[Most
browsers will allow you to File, Save As, so that you can read this
off-line in your browser; or you can Click and highlight from top to
bottom, press Ctrl+C to copy the text to your Windows Clipboard,
then retrieve it in WPWin by pressing Ctrl+V; or you can Print
it from here.]
DRIVE IS NOT READY
If
you play a macro from your floppy drive, WPWin will periodically require
a diskette to be inserted, until after you've played enough hard drive
macros to make WPWin "forget" the floppy drive macro.
Also,
if you exit WPWin while you're defaulted to your floppy drive, it will
sometimes poll the drive, looking for a diskette.
Both
of these WPWin bugs may be corrected by playing the Clear 'Drive
Not Ready' Prompt macro (partially adapted from "killmac.wcm"
on page 31 of the July 1996 WordPerfect for Windows
magazine). All references to macros played from your A and
B drives will be cleared off the history list, and your
Documents directory is reset to the default. To install this macro,
hold down your Shift key while left-clicking the
Download hyperlink location at the end of this paragraph, and save
it to disk. Specify the download directory (on "Save As..." menu) to be
your Macros directory - usually c:\office\wpwin\macros
(note: some browsers require that you choose "Save File..." to
bring up the "Save As..." directory listing, or select "Cancel" if
you get a security warning, or pick "Save Link/Target As..."
when you right-click). After you finish downloading,
and just before the next time you exit WPWin (with all screens
empty), press Alt+F10, and enter clear.
Download clear.wcm (5K)
The
above macro will fix most routine situations, but sometimes you may
need to play four hard drive macros. To manually create and play four
harmless macros, perform the following keystrokes four times while
you're defaulted to your hard drive, replacing W with
X, then Y, then Z:
Ctrl+F10
W
Enter
Alt+F3
Ctrl+F10
Alt+F10
W
Enter
FIND
CORNER
The
positioning of the Find and Replace dialog box at the bottom
center of the screen sometimes obscures the view of text
following a search string. Ordinarily, this wouldn't present
much of a problem, but there are occasions where a portion
of that hidden text might affect decisions you would make
in a prompted Replace routine. And Replaces at the end of
a document are always tricky...
This
solution involves creating a smaller version of the WPWin
editing window (by clicking on the double-arrow button at the
upper right corner of the WPWin edit screen), and then
using the Move and Size functions (by clicking on the "dash"
box at the top left of the smaller window). When the smaller
WPWin window is approximately the size of the Find and
Replace dialog box, and positioned in the upper right
corner of the screen, click the upper right single arrow
to bring it back to full size. If you need help moving and
sizing the window, click Help in the Windows
Program Manager, and select the Windows
Tutorial. You can test the screen placement of the Find
and Replace Text dialog box by pressing {F2} (note: it
won't execute in a blank document).
Now
record a template macro named "FIND CORNER"
(Tools, Template Macro, Record,
FIND CORNER, {Enter}, {Click double arrow upper right},
{Click single arrow upper right}, Tools,
Template Macro, Record)
Next,
edit the template macro (Tools, Template
Macro, Edit, FIND CORNER, {Enter}) and this set of
commands will appear:
Application (A1; "WordPerfect";
Default; "US")
AppRestore ()
AppMaximize ()
At
the beginning of the AppMaximize () line, type the
command:
FindDlg ()
plus
a space [resulting in: FindDlg () AppMaximize ()],
then type, below it:
AppActivate
(AppLocate ("Find and Replace Text"))
on
a line by itself at the end. Now save the template macro
(File, Close, Yes) and assign
it to your current toolbar (Edit, Preferences,
Toolbar, {Enter}, Edit, Add a Button To: Play
a Macro, Add Template Macro, FIND CORNER,
{Enter}, {Click OK}, Close, Close).
From
now on, whenever you click the new cassette button "FIND
CORNER" on the toolbar, the Find and Replace Text dialog
box will display in the upper right corner of your
screen!
